Generation History
Generation History helps you review results that were created in the current project. It is useful when you want to find an earlier image, compare previous versions, export a generated file, or return a node to one of its past results.
Generation History is different from the Asset Library. History records generated results automatically. The Asset Library is for selected materials that you decide to save and reuse.
Open Project Generation History
- Open a project and enter a canvas.
- Find the vertical toolbar on the left side of the canvas.
- Click Generation History.
The history panel opens on the left side of the canvas. It shows generated project results grouped by date.
Use Refresh if you want to reload the latest history list.
Filter Results
The history panel provides two groups of filters.
Media type:
- Images
- Videos
- Audio
- Text
Time range:
- All Time
- Today
- 7 Days
- 30 Days
The item count updates after filtering, so you can quickly see how many results match the current view.
Preview History Items
Click a history item to preview it.
- Image results open in the media viewer.
- Video results open in the media viewer and can be played.
- Audio results can be played from the card.
- Text results show their text content on the card.
Video results display a play mark. Audio results display an audio-style card.
Manage a History Item
Right-click a project history item to open its menu.
Available actions:
- Export File: save a copy of the generated file to a location you choose.
- Show in Folder: open the local folder where the generated file is stored.
- Delete Result: delete the generated file, preview file, and related history references.
Deleting a history result is permanent. Only delete a result when you are sure you no longer need it.
Open a Node's Generation History
You can also view history for a single node.
- Right-click a node that has generated results.
- Click Generation History.
A compact history panel opens beside the node. It shows the results that belong to that node.
Set an Earlier Result as the Current Node Display
In a node's history panel:
- Find the result you want to use.
- Right-click the result.
- Click Set As Current.
The node will switch back to that result. This is useful when a newer generation is not as good as an earlier one.
The current result is marked with Current in the node history panel.
Delete a Node History Result
In a node's history panel, right-click a result and choose Delete Asset.
This removes the generated file and the node's reference to it. If the deleted result was currently displayed by the node, DFCine will switch the node to another available history result when possible.
Tips
- Use project Generation History when you want to search across the whole project.
- Use node Generation History when you want to compare or restore results from one specific node.
- Save important reusable materials to the Asset Library instead of relying only on history.
